What is HeartSaver?

This comprehensive Heartsaver AED Course is designed to teach Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills for the lay rescuer and first responder. The course is multimedia based with practical instruction from qualified Irish Heart Foundation Instructors.

All training is completed following AHA/IHF guidelines.

Who should attend CPR Training?

The course is for people who want to learn CPR and AED use but who are not expected to use it regularly. This could include non-healthcare personnel, sports coaches, teachers and parents as a very small example. This course is also suitable for non-acute healthcare staff such as healthcare assistants, medical secretaries and dental nurses.

What's Involved in IHF CPR & AED HeartSaver Training

Training Aim and Objectives

TProvides Responders with knowledge & skill to recognise sudden cardiac arrest, perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Also, to recognise choking & know the steps to assist choking victim.


The aim of the course is to equip the student with the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver a range of life saving techniques in an emergency situation.

Method of Delivery, Duration & Assessment

Training delivery includes both lecture methods (including videos) and practical work with "hands-on" experience.


Video-based course ensures consistency.


Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency.


Course duration is Half Day.


Maximum number of participants: 6


Students will be assessed on a practical skills.

Fully Compliant Certificate valid for 3 years

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued with an Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association credit card sized certificate. This cert will be valid for 2 years. It should also be noted that as this course is certified by both the Irish Heart Foundation & American Heart Association it is recognized internationally.

Latest figures show that there has been an improvement in the number of people who survived a cardiac arrest in the community in 2019 compared to 2018, and in the rate of bystander CPR, where someone has witnessed or come across a cardiac arrest and stepped in to attempt CPR.

According to the 2019 annual report from the Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register (OHCAR) which collects information on the number of and outcomes for people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting, between 2012 and 2019, there was a 17 per cent increase in bystander CPR and the number of people who survived to hospital discharge increased from 176 in 2018 to 190 in 2019.

  • Do you provide training for individuals?

    No. We only provide training for groups of 6 or more.

  • Do you deliver training at your location?

    No. We only deliver training at client's premises. However, if your premises is not suitable for training delivery, we may help in organising alternative venue.

  • Do you require booking deposit?

    Most of our courses do not require booking deposit payment. However is some cases where training involves multiple sessions and several days to be be booked, we may require deposit payment in advance.

  • What if I we need to cancel?

    If you need to cancel your training already booked, we will be happy to accomodate you with alternative dates.

  • How long is CPR AED certificate valid for?

    Heart Saver CPR AED certificate is valid for 2 years.

This course is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the American Heart Associations research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students.
