Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), including manual handling injuries, are the most common type of occupational illnesses. Back pain and other MSDs account for approximately 40 per cent of all sickness absence in work. According to Health and Safety Authority records.

Manual Handling injuries are the largest single cause of accidents within the workplace in Ireland.

Manual Handling and Lifting

The are two types of Manual Handling Training

If you handle objects, but not people, you must complete inanimate manual handling (MH) training.

If you handle objects and people, you must complete people moving and handling (PMH) training.

You must complete a theory and practical module for both forms of training.

Manual Handling Training Course

It is a statutory requirement that all employees attend manual handling training relevant to their role, work activities and work environment. Under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, is a legal requirement to be trained in Manual Handling.

Patient Moving and Handling Course

This course is training requirement for carers, healthcare workers, nurses, nursing homes staff, first aiders, people working in hospitals and respite centers, hotel porters and other workers who engage in manual handling or patient handling activities during their working day.
