What Is Cardiac First Response (CFR) Training?

The Cardiac First Response (CFR) course is a PHECC-accredited training programme designed to teach participants how to recognise and respond to sudden cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies. It is a short, focused course that provides learners with the practical skills and confidence to perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and manage choking incidents.

CFR training is suitable for both workplace and community settings and plays a vital role in improving survival rates in cardiac emergencies. This course follows the national standard set out by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) and is part of Ireland’s recognised chain of survival.

Who Should Attend CFR Training?

This course is ideal for non-medical staff, volunteers, and members of the public who may be first to respond in an emergency, including those in offices, retail, hospitality, education, childcare, fitness centres, and community groups.

There are no entry requirements. The course is open to anyone interested in learning CPR and AED skills, and participants must be physically able to perform chest compressions and practice rescue techniques.
